So we’ve reached $7,593 - Top in the ACT for fundraising. Cycled my first centenary on the weekend (100km in a day!) of three of Berra’s lakes. The Team exceeded what was raised over the four year period - in a single mayhem month blitz. Today, we’re sitting pretty at $13,980. So I’m pretty stoked, top effort all round and thanks for your support!

All funds have gone to a great cause, so Thankyou 🧡

  • All the way - 100km in a day
    28 Oct 2019

Sunday was my first centenary ride! What regular riders may call, the “Hundy Sundie”.

I completed the challenge that I had set out to do: 100km - touching on the three Canberra’s lakes and some.

After having the flu, I had thought I wasn’t going to be able do it. But, by the time Sat eve ticked over, thought why not have a hack?

The morning of the ride, Andrew turns to me and says “We’re gonna go all the way”.

So the approach was to do it in chunks:

    Ride 1 - 33.5km - O’Connor ridge to Ginninderra lake & Burley.

    Stop 1 -Penny University, Kingston

our Lunch picks - Avo dish with Pialigo Bacon (fave) and Pialigo Hash (Andrews), two ice coffees.

Ride 2 - 30km - Kingston all the way to the Deep South aka Tuggers lake

Stop 2. Icy juice break and watched sailboats capsize.

Ride 3. 26.5km -Tugger lake to Civic centre

Stop 3. Share tea: milk tea with pearls!

Ride 4. 5.1km - Homerun- saying hello to my cat.

stop 4. Mischievous Mocha and her house.

    Ride 5. 6.9km - the Dickson loop.

Covered the three lakes and were short - so we made up for the remaining km with a ride to dinner.

    Stop 5. Sushi and sashimi

    Badaboom badabing!

    We made it!

That night.. Crashed out and slept so well, hey

There was a couple of personal hurdles: breathing issues post flu (meh meh meh) and my bike recently had acquired a bent rear axle...

...So for the ride, I found a gear that stuck - and rode my bike like a mother flippin fixy! :p

The hurdles had me reminiscent of school dayz sitting on the sidelines with Asthma and when I had first moved to Canberra 2012 with my single speed..

    Cool story bro..

Though through the day & 100km cycle, I was in good spirits and didn’t quite see the same as I had back then.

I think a part of that was because I did the ride with Andrew. He is a positive force as well as more versed in the way of the wheel.

Another part has been seeing my friends come together to on this great cause, we raised over 7k and that’s an amazing effort all over.

If there was a philos from the experience, would be how to chill and roll with it. Breaking the big stuff down into chunks.

Sometimes it can feel very easy to become overwhelmed by what seems like a real big thing, but lots of small efforts - add up.

So overall a real good day for riding - best company, beautiful warm sun, sweet temp and for the most part the wind was with us.

    We were lucky!

    And we made it!

    13 Oct 2019

Bike paths, farm animals and nature galore! This is a pic of my ride last week around Dairy road - forms part of the Eastern Basin of Lake Burley Griffin. There’s a few cows before the land transitions into wetlands.

  • Return on investment
    8 Oct 2019

    Heya!

Quick shout out to the champions who’ve already sponsored- living legends, and shout out to the future legends! I know you’re out there.

This could possibly be your best investment yet. All funds raised will support Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer

Together, we could make a big impact and the world of difference to families and kids living with Cancer.

Extra benefit: you’re puttin extra chips in the barrel for supporting Australia’s science and research. How awesome is that?

Please sponsor today - Thanks heaps and take care

  • Magpies see me rollin’, they swoopin’
    4 Oct 2019

As Spring is here, so are the young magpies. Yesterday, I had my first swoop and it reminded me that Magpies care about their families too.

Just like people, they’re doing their best to protect their kids, their families. I feel that there’s a lot of good in trying to protect what we have.

Working toward what we can change is better than standing still. So like the Magpie, good to get in there and have a swoop at what we can! :-p

I found this photo in Canberra Wildlife fb group- the photo is by a local Canberra photographer called “A Lizards View”: https://www.thelizardsview.net/index

  • We’ve raised over $1000 towards kids cancer! Thank you so much
    2 Oct 2019

Thankyou so much for your support- collectively, we’ve raised well over $1000 towards fighting kids cancer!

I feel happy for my friends and family, that there is a supporting community around us and it brings me hope for the future.

If You’re not already familiar; I’m riding 500km for the GCC this month and raising funds for kids Cancer research.

    Why am I doing this?

Cancer is an aggressive bitch and I’m sure we’ve all experienced or know of someone close we’ve lost.

I do think that we have the power to change our lives, the lives around us and those who live with Cancer.

I think that if science and research was adequately supported - then we would stand a chance to solve and tackle these community problems.

Then, and maybe then, families, friends, colleagues and neighbours would live their lives and perhaps, still be with us today.

Thank you to everyone that has supported me so far, I couldn’t of done this without you.

If you would like to sponsor, please do

  • 100km in a day! That’s one hell of a Canberra ride
    29 Sep 2019

    Heya!

At the end of the Oct, I plan to challenge myself to do 100km in a day of Canberra’s three lakes for October’s GCC.

The Lake Trio: Ginninderra, Burley and Tuggeranong.

In the build up to this, I will be cycling more than average length rides. As evidenced by today’s 42km ride round Ginninderra and Burleys western loop.

I’ve never done a 100km ride in my life and perhaps the most I’ve ever accomplished in cycling in a day is 60km - by complete fluke. So no doubt this will be a challenge

Please support me in raising money for this great cause and I’ll see you out on the tracks!
