I was 5 (now 40). Returned home from kindy, I saw a bowl of grapes on the dining table. Grapes are hard to come by during my childhood. Full of excitement, I popped a few into my mouth.
Suddenly, I heard whinging sound behind me. Turned around, a girl about my height started throwing punches on my face and chest, shouting "those are my grapes!". I was stunned, didn't know who she is, shocked.
Later mum told me the little girl is my cousin. She's in town to see the doctor. She died few months later. It's hard to understand at the time why a child would die. There wasn't hope back then. I had 2 cousins died of childhood cancer. I was hoping that they did not need to suffer.
I cycle to raise awareness so that more children with cancer are given hope.
