My Story

7 Oct 2019

Cancer is shit at the best of times, but when it robs someone of something so precious and finite, such as one's childhood, it is down right evil!

Kids should be able to enjoy being kids, making friends, enjoying every day that brings with it a new experience. They shouldn't have to spend their time fighting for their life.

So this October, I'm getting my fat arse on a bike and riding to try and help raise money to bring an end to this evil disease.

Times are tough for everyone these days, but if you could spare a few dollars for a good cause, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks for your support

  • Week 2
    15 Oct 2019

Wow, one week ago I was wrote an update to say how thankful I was to be 50% of the way to my fund raising goal. Now, I'm writing to say that after two weeks of the challenge, all you amazing individuals have got me to 3 times my goal. Let that sink in for a minute...

So, we are now just under half way through the challenge, and at 134km down, I'm just over half the distance to the goal. I started slowly but after each day I'm getting more confident I will be able to get that distance target, and I'm thinking about how I can go even bigger next year. But the biggest thing on my mind right now is what beer I celebrate with! I don't think it makes much difference because I'm sure whatever I go with, it will be one of the tastiest beers I've ever had.

I just want to take a moment and thank each and every one of you who has donated to this great cause. I have the easy part, I just sit on a bike and pedal, and sweat through a different shirt every day. But each of you have decided to make a financial sacrifice, you have decided to part with your hard earned money, to forego something else, to help out people you don't know. That is a big deal and I am extremely grateful for everyone's generosity, so once again, thank you!!

Who knows where we will be in a week's time, but hopefully, I'll be a lot closer to a beer!

  • One week down!
    7 Oct 2019

Well one week into the challenge and I'm happy to say, thanks to some very generous individuals, I am already over 50% of my way to my fund-raising goal. So, I've had a thought about ways I can keep the momentum going, and decided that for every $10 over my $200 target raised, I will add an extra kilometre to my distance goal.

On top of that, I also decided I will be cutting out alcohol until I complete the challenge. That means, if we are able to smash my fund-raising target, it could be a long time until I get to celebrate those salty tears of those Canberra supporters after the might chooks went back to back!

If it means I have to keep riding after the challenge has officially ended, to hit a higher target, then so be it, it's all for a good cause and I can do with losing a few more kilos!

To all those that have donated so far, I can't thank you enough, your generosity in these tough times is very much appreciated, and I thank you for your continued support.

For everyone else, let's help raise some money for a good cause, help me lose some weight for a good cause, and help you get a little something back come tax time, for a good cause. It's a win win win situation!
