My Story

This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Because right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

And so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Together, we can save little lives.

Thanks for your support.

  • 200km goal done!
    31 Oct 2019

Great night ride for last day.

How ironic it is that my last ride to complete my 200km goal I needed to use my other mountain bike that I gave up on for the first 100km goal in 2018 because it was to hard!

  • 32.5km to go...
    30 Oct 2019

    So in last 2 weeks:

my whole body being saw for a while,

almost getting sick from beating down my immune system,

putting to much good faith in brands to sponsor me and them failing to do so,

envisioning, asking, trying to put together a 6 to 10 person team but only managing to get 3 including myself,

my 12 year old mountain bike in good condition being stolen whilst in care of a bike shop,

finally getting back into it 30th Oct I was going to try and ride 1 of 2 bikes my friends don't use, can't because those 2 bikes are rusty pieces of shit...

might be able to get a bike to use for 31st oct and finish 200km goal.

If I had gotten my bike back from shop in final week I would of raised goal to 300km...

  • My Bike was Stolen from a Bike Shop!!
    30 Oct 2019

I took my mountain bike I have owned for 12 years to a bike shop I trusted for them to put new tyres on and adjust my brakes (23rd Oct). The tyres they ordered were late so they couldn't do it on Wed. And supposedly the next day on Thursday night my mountain bike was stolen while in their care! I go back Saturday 26th and discover my bike was stolen...

They are nice enough to give me a new mountain bike for free to say sorry but it will arrive after October...

  • Felt Horrible
    30 Oct 2019

After the first two weeks and riding 167.5km beating my 100km goal I felt horrible because I hadn't ridden my bike regularly for 2 or 3 years. Feeling my immune system braking down and feeling like I might get sick I went into self preservation mode. My knees, legs, elbows, arms, shoulders, back, just about everything was saw on me. So I decided to rest for several days which turned into a week.

I tried to get a sponsorship for Kick Cancer's Butt Day from a muscle heat cream brand that I know and trust. I was using it telling them how great it is. But then I stopped using it because no responses from the brand at all. Even if I kept using it, my immune system was under attack and I didn't want to ride for a week.

Avoiding getting sick and at the end of that week (23rd) I took my mountain bike to a bike shop to get new tyres put on and adjust brakes.

  • Domino's Pizza Brand Loyalty
    30 Oct 2019

This is the pizza I ate after the 44.6km ride on Sunday 13, I was starving hungry.

I also asked Domino's on Kick Cancer's Butt Day to sponsor me, afterwards I waited 7 days for response but they didn't want to sponsor me. In the past 12 months I would of bought at least 15-20 New Yorker pizzas plus many other pizzas and sides from that one shop. Potentially over $600.

I will never buy anything from Domino's now, this brand is dead to me.

  • 42.9km ride
    10 Oct 2019

This is the delicious breakfast I made that helped me ride 42.9km on Thursday 3 Oct 2019! And I ate five lady finger bananas during the ride.

Three free range eggs, three lamb and rosemary sausages and lots of cooked spinach.

All these ingredients and the bananas were bought from Zone Fresh - 142 Newmarket Rd, Windsor QLD.

It looks small from the outside but inside it is big! With a butcher, deli, fruit and veg. So many pastas, sauces and unique items to choose from. Staff are super friendly and do a great job.

  • Bird Poop - Unbelievable
    9 Oct 2019

Riding down a hill at nice speed on the 8th October ride I hear a plop on my bike helmet. I could only think what of the chances moving so fast and still getting a bird poop on me! And so lucky that it did not go through the small gap in the helmet!

  • 8km in 2018
    9 Oct 2019

I only discovered Great Cycle Challenge in mid October 2018. I was pumped up ready to do 100km in the last 2 weeks of October!!!

After the first ride doing 8km at night while half in rain with humidity, riding a dual suspension mountain bike, sweating hard I was exhausted. Worse is I felt deflated for experiencing how unfit and unhealthy I was so I thought riding 100km in 2 weeks was impossible so I gave up completely on Great Cycle Challenge 2018.

Now in 2019 I have already achieved 101km in the first week doing smaller km goals and with no bike riding training leading up to October. I've probably only ridden my bike maybe 4 times this year prior to October.

I am more mentally stronger this year and the muscle pain is changing to muscle discomfort. My rides so far I've pushed through my pain because it can't compare to the pain kids with cancer experience.

  • My Bike
    9 Oct 2019

I ride a GT Avalanche Mountain Bike that I have owned for 12 years so it is very old for a bike! Front suspension that doesn't lock out and thick chunky tyres so I feel like I'm working twice as hard as someone who has a bike built specifically for the road and pavement.

My bike seat is comfortable once I'm used to it but I haven't ridden this bike seriously for maybe 1 or 2 years, starting to forget it has been so long. So currently sitting on this bike seat has been a real pain for 101km!

  • 101km of Grimes Music
    9 Oct 2019

To get through each ride so far I have been listening to the music artist Grimes on repeat for total of 101km! My favourite album is Art Angels 2015. Also Visions 2012, Geidi Primes 2010, Darkbloom - EP 2011. And the new single "Violence".
