My Story

9 Oct 2021

This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Because right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

And so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Together, we can save little lives.

Thanks for your support.

FANTASTIC 90.90 kms in 5½ hrs in glorious sunshine, with so many cyclists, e-scooters, walkers & fur babies. 🐶🐶

    Max speed 36.8 km/hr. Avg 16.6 km/hr. Calories used 3088.74

This is the last ride of the Challenge, which brings my total to 1,200 kms ridden in October.

I’m absolutely THRILLED & also for raising $3,083.32 (so far), which I could NEVER have done without the GENEROSITY of my sponsors.

This morning I saw beautiful orange Koi fish in the river.

(Koi or more specifically nishikigoi, are colored varieties of the Amur carp that are kept for decorative purposes in outdoor koi ponds or water gardens. Koi is an informal name for the colored variants of

    C. rubrofuscus kept for ornamental purposes).

Plenty of nice reflections to photograph.

A pleasant treat to have planes ✈️taking off, as I passed the airport.

    Beautiful lorikeets in the trees.

A cyclist told me “nice back” as he passed me, referring to ‘Riding To Kick Cancer’s Butt’ written on back of my yellow jersey.

I thought he said “nice butt” !!! This gave me a smile 😊momentarily, until I realised. 🤣🤣

Optus Stadium is a multi-purpose venue that hosts AFL, cricket, soccer, rugby union, was opened on 21 January 2018.

The Swan Bells are a set of 18 bells hanging in a specially built 82.5-metre-high copper and glass campanile in Perth. The tower is commonly known as The Bell Tower or the Swan Bell Tower.

I enjoyed watching yachts, boats, jet skis, water skiers out enjoying themselves.

A HUGE thank you again to all those who sponsored me SO GENEROUSLY. Very much appreciated for use by the Children's Medical Research Institute to carry on with their excellent work in finding a cure for Childhood Cancer. 🤗🥰😘

Gorgeous 82.47 km ride in 5 hrs and popped in to visit my work colleagues for a chat and a much needed cuppa & biscuit.😋

King's Park flowers are so pretty, likewise the magnificent view.

Sea breeze on return ride. Max speed 38 km/hr.

I enjoy looking at the swans, pelicans, bird life. The Old Swan Brewery I captured a seagull flying in the forefront.

I saw a beautiful white egret with very long slim legs, but it was camera shy and flew off!😃

I took bike on train from Gosnells-Perth-Greenwood.

Absolutely glorious 75.17 kms, in 5 hrs.

Max speed 38.7 km/hr. Meeting very kind people along the way, who took my photo of me wearing my new Superhero jersey, having reached $2,500. I'm feeling very proud wearing it knowing that if it wasn't for the GENEROSITY of all my sponsors, this wouldn't have been.

Scenery breathtaking. A slight sea breeze.

I could clearly see Rottnest Is. Yachts, tankards, surfers and windsurfers out in glorious🌞🌞.

    52.03 kms

I had an afternoon ride in pleasant sunny conditions, explored a new cycle path just past Kalamunda Rd and then it suddenly came to an end!

I did a "Contiki tour" through bushland and across Hillview Golf course onto Midland Rd to Bushmead. I didn't see any kangaroos, but some golfers were enjoying their game. I was ready for my meal when I got home, as I'd expended a lot of energy exploring. 😀
