I'm Riding For

My sister Dakota Nelson and good friend Nigel Snow

My sister Dakota Nelson and good friend Nigel Snow

This year I am riding in support of two people my sister Dakota who has a terminal cancer, Squamous cell carcinoma of the lungs. The overall prognosis for squamous cell lung cancer is poor; only about 16% of patients survive five years or longer. The survival rate is higher if the disease is detected and treated early. Even when surgery and other therapies are initially successful, squamous cell lung cancer can return. I am also riding for my very good friend Nigel who has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the gall bladder. The mean survival after a gallbladder cancer diagnosis is a mere 6 months. It is one of the deadliest cancers we know of this diagnosis was a shock to me as Nigel is a fellow cyclist and is reasonably fit, I wish him all the best in this traumatic time.

My Story

This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Because right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

And so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Together, we can save little lives.

Thanks for your support.
