Thanks again my final message we raised nearly 3 million to fight Kids cancer
You are legends
Well the last 12 kms knocked off … aggregate over 2500 kms cycled and over 30k raised thank you all so much for the financial and moral support ! To all those out there doing it tough with cancer I salute you , stay strong and keep on pedalling …
A moment of reflection over a coffee up at Church Point for the final time this year. The end of week 3 , as we surpass 2500 km ridden and AUD 30,000 raised ( so grateful) - to think about what we have learnt this year :
-Punctures are a right faff
-When you bike has a battery, that enables you to change gear,it’s better not to hope that after 4 years no use it’s still gonna be charged l
- incline is the enemy of the fuller figured rider
- riding with your spouse is stressful
- my friends , family , colleagues and teammates are exceedingly generous and supportive bunch
As I come towards the end of another years pedalling I want to pay tribute to my friends and family who have fought , are fighting , and will have to fight the big C … as well as to the little battlers of the GCC …
For My Uncle Ken , for my Ones partner GT , for Benny C , for Max E and for Pep and Tess . this one was for you guys x SP
Teething troubles on the road bike with the battery expiring on my gear changers resulting in the last 8 km of a ride being stuck in one gear !! Blowing my ring out getting out of Dee Why !
In positive news I have surpassed my goal of raising $30,000 dollars for this cause so Thank You all very much for making this possible you have been very generous over many years. I am acutely aware that lots of great causes and challenges come up so I do appreciate your support !
275 km to go !!
Keep rolling …
This is Ivar … I came accross his story the first year I did the GCC , there was something about the look on his face , how small and yet stoic he looked . There is a photo of me at that age in a sky blue romper …He was so small …it broke , and breaks, my heart every time I look at this photo. For the first few years I taped this photo to my frame, every time my legs hurt or my lungs were bursting I’d look down and see that little guy and realise my pain was merely transitory, and I had zero right to complain. He inspires me still .. he is my “why” for the GCC and he always will be… Hemmingway said a “man dies twice , when his body gives out , and the last time someone speaks his name “ …. I’m still speaking your name little man…rest easy….
Wow a massive 2713 dollars added thanks to all you generous people !! Blown away by the support thanks so much
Such a great ride - forgotten how good it is - legs felt best so far maybe a few rides under the belt and in the legs now …. Thanks to all that have donated so far for such a worthy cause - peace out !
