It’s that time of year again—the Great Cycle Challenge 2024 has officially kicked off, and I’m proud to be back in the saddle for my third year supporting this incredible cause. Over the past two years, I’ve ridden a total of 2063 kilometres and raised $10,488, and this year, I’m pushing myself further with a goal of 500 kilometres and $2500 raised by the end of October.
This challenge is not just about cycling—it’s about fighting for a future where no child has to face cancer. For those who may not know, the Great Cycle Challenge raises funds for the Children’s Medical Research Institute, and the money we raise goes directly to research that helps develop better treatments and, ultimately, find a cure for childhood cancer.
Why I Ride
Cancer remains the largest killer of children from disease in Australia, with over 700 children diagnosed every year and, heartbreakingly, three young lives lost every week. It’s a reality that no family should have to face. That’s why I ride—to help change those statistics and give kids the brighter, healthier futures they deserve.
This year, I’ve made sure there are no excuses. With the unpredictable weather and a few injuries slowing me down last year, I’ve invested in an indoor trainer to ensure I can hit my riding target, rain or shine.
How You Can Get Involved
There are a couple of ways you can support me in this challenge:
1. Ride with me! If you’re keen to join the movement, hop on your bike this October and set your own riding goal. It’s a great way to stay active while supporting an amazing cause.
2. Donate to my ride and help me reach my fundraising goal. Every dollar makes a difference, and later this month, we’ll be holding a double donation day, where all donations will be matched by corporate sponsors—so keep an eye out for that to maximise your impact!
Let’s Do This Together
Whether you choose to ride or donate, your support will make a real difference. Over the last decade, the Great Cycle Challenge has brought together a community of over 107,000 riders from across the country, who have collectively ridden more than 31 million kilometres and raised over $42 million to fight kids’ cancer. It’s a huge collective effort, and I’m proud to be part of it once again.
I’m excited to see where this year’s challenge takes me, and I can’t wait to keep you all updated on my progress. I’ll be sharing regular updates throughout October, so follow along as I pedal toward my goals. Together, let’s kick cancer’s butt! 💪
Stay tuned for more, and thank you in advance for your support!
