Another great start to another day of riding.

Since raising the bar on my challenge, I'm already well on the way to my new targets: $1,225 raised of $2,012 and 164 km ridden of 1,023 km. Thank you, everyone. I'm so grateful for your support. 🙏

Today's ride was a meaningful one: 115.8 km. It was an early start, with an hour of sleep lost to daylight saving, but I wasn't alone. A friend joined me for 60 km, and we share a similar past. He lost his mum to cancer seven years ago, around the same time I lost my son Batur. One of his friends rode with us too.

Looking back on our conversations along the way, we were all after the same thing: to be the best version of ourselves, to be selfless, and to support each other through every kilometre. Neither of them had ridden more than 60 km before, and their determination was incredible.

It made me think of the families supporting a son, daughter, mother or father through cancer. Every step into the unknown is taken together, in the name of hope, and it's never easy.

I finished at Werribee Open Range Zoo, a place Batur loved visiting. He always loved animals, and it holds so many memories for me. It was a beautiful place to end the ride. 🦒

To my two friends who rode with me today, thank you. Not all donations are paid in money. 💛

  • A reflection after hitting my donation target on day one.
    1 Oct 2026

On 1 October, I reached my $500 fundraising target. I still had 701 km left to ride this month, but seeing how generous my family and friends were, I wanted to lift my game a little more.

So I've set a new goal in memory of Batur. I'll now ride 1,023 km, for 23 October 2019, the day we lost him. And I'm aiming to raise $2,012, for the year he was born.

This year marks seven years since Batur became an angel 😇. I wanted this challenge to be as meaningful as it could be, and now every kilometre and every dollar carries a part of him.

Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported me so far. Let's keep going together, for Batur and for every child still fighting
