• Day 28: Night Rider
    28 Oct 2026

As October winds down, I am cramming in the kilometres to hit 500. Sometimes, that means riding after dark! No biggie. I've got some pretty bright road lights. That strobe in shades of red. My bike, KITT, doesn't talk or drive itself though. That's the way I like it.

"Night Rider: a shadowy flight into the world of a man... who does not exist. Michael Knight... err, Ed Dawson, a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless. In a world of criminals who operate above the law."

  • Day 28: 7 Bridges Ride
    27 Oct 2026

Since the annual event of Sydney's "7 Bridges Walk" took place last weekend, I took the opportunity to ride the bike along those same bridges in a loop. One of the great things about living in this beautiful harbour city is that gorgeous water views are never far away. The iconic Anzac, Sydney Harbour, Pyrmont and Iron Cove Bridges have excellent cycle tracks, all of the other bridges (the Fig Tree Bridge, Tarban Creek Bridge and Gladesville Bridge) are basically "not cycle friendly". But you get that. Not to worry, it was a very pleasant afternoon with a golden sunset. Along the way I caught up for a coffee and a chat with Alan, my Father-in-law, who was making handcrafted Christmas cards and beautiful bookmarks as gifts for all the family. If only we could all be so creatively motivated!

  • Day 22: Sculptures By The Sea Ride
    22 Oct 2026

Every October, the coastline between Sydney beaches of Bondi and Tamarama host the Sculptures By The Sea, a triumphant outdoor exhibition showing off exquisite sculptural art adjacent to the dazzling beauty of nature. It's quite a visual feast, and often includes a number of pieces that raise awareness of various issues in our world, which cause the observer to reflect and think over the message a number of times. You get to take in a fresh coastline track with stunning ocean views, and around every corner is another intriguing artist's creation that either challenges our views, pokes fun at our beliefs and institutions, or feeds our thirst for aesthetic beauty.

  • Halfway Progress!
    18 Oct 2026

Hello everyone, just sharing an update on the total distance travelled so far! Out of my giant goal of riding 500 kilometres in October, so far I have ridden 341.9 km! It seems like such a giant quantity... can I make it to the finish line? Can my body (and the bike!) survive the trauma of enduring that enormous distance? Will I get a flat tyre at Oodnadatta? Will I be stopped by Police for being a boofhead? Tune in for the ongoing drama!

  • Day 17: Art Gallery Ride
    17 Oct 2026

The Art Gallery of NSW is a grand old sandstone building filled with national treasures. I will admit that I do like a bit of a stroll among the artworks. Life without art, beauty, creativity and human connection is too drudgerous to bear.

  • Day 14: Bowling Club Ride
    15 Oct 2026

Lawn Bowling is a traditional sport in Australia which still persists to this day, but the venues are sometimes partially converted into beer gardens. An afternoon at a bowling club in the Australian summer is a time to remember. Your bare feet on the perfectly clipped green grass, a cold beverage, heavy rolling ovoids, laughter and a golden sunset. It's a great day out!
