My Story

10 Sep 2026

This October, I’m taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge for the fifth time, raising money to help fight kids’ cancer.

This year will be very different.

In previous challenges I’ve ridden up to 2,000 km. After missing the past two years, I’m returning with a target of just 100 km — but those 100 km may be my biggest challenge yet.

At the end of 2025 my life changed dramatically. A neurological event led to months of hospital stays, tests, scans and a brain biopsy, and eventually a diagnosis of Primary CNS Vasculitis, a rare disease affecting the blood vessels in my brain.

Since then, I’ve also been diagnosed with Polycythaemia Vera, a form of blood cancer, dealt with blood clots in my leg and lungs, and developed osteopaenia and multiple spinal compression fractures.

Last month I completed six months of chemotherapy. Much of 2026 has been about treatment, rehabilitation and learning to manage pain and fatigue while slowly rebuilding my strength.

So there won’t be any long road rides this October. My 100 km will be completed on an exercise bike, fitted in around appointments, recovery and what my body allows me to do each day.

For me, this challenge is now about much more than kilometres. It gives me another goal in my recovery, helps me rebuild my fitness and, most importantly, gives me an opportunity to give something back.

After everything others have done to support me this year, that means a lot.

I now know what it’s like for life to suddenly revolve around hospitals, test results and treatments.

But I’m an adult dealing with this.

Kids shouldn’t have to.

So I’m back for number five — 100 km, $500 and one pedal at a time.

Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Together, we can save little lives.

Thanks for your support.
