This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer for the 5th year.

My journey started after I suffered a heart attack at age 44. One of my dearest friends left the following message on my Facebook page - "All the best Craig. Talk soon." I thought this was pretty weak at the time, and when I called him a couple of days later, he broke down and told me 1 of his 3 year old twin daughters had been diagnosed with cancer. My heart attack paled in comparison when compared to this.

When I had recovered sufficiently, I started riding and was made aware of this challenge by my own daughter. It was a no brainer to take part in this, especially when I found out funds would also help the Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI), as this was where my friends daughter was treated during such a challenging and painful time. I know my friend and his family are eternally grateful to the CMRI, for all the support and treatment of his daughter, who is still with us today and will be 10 years old on her next birthday.

So, in addition to riding for the children and the families affected by cancer, this year I am riding for myself as well. I have had a fairly rough couple of years, so this time around it will be a lot about my own physical, mental and spiritual health. Hopefully I can shad a few kilos in the process and come out the other end as a happier and healthier version of me.
