This is my fifth year taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge and I want to make it my biggest one yet! This year I have decided to challenge myself to riding a total of 12,000m of vertical over the month of October (which I am estimating will take about 500 - 600km of riding). To put this in perspective, last year I rode 508km during October and only managed to climb 5,400m, so I am more than doubling my normal climbing for the month!

As part of my climbing goal I will be attempting two half Everests (or Everest BaseCamps) - basically climbing the distance from sea level to the Mt Everest base camp in a single ride (more info here: https://everesting.cc/everesting-basecamp-4424/). I'll be attempting to do this from Salamanca to the summit of Mt Wellington, meaning about 3.5 laps up and down the mountain!

My first attempt will be on Sunday the 1st of October, and the second on the 14th or 15th of October. If there is anyone who would like to come along for a ride and support my effort just get in touch!

As with every year, I'm riding and pushing myself physically to support the amazing work that CMRI do to research treatments and cures for kids cancer. As a survivor of cancer I know that no child should have to experience this terrible disease, and as a dad of two wonderful kids I can't imagine what it must be like to have a son or daughter diagnosed with cancer at such a young age.
