I'm Riding For

My son Max

My son Max

In 2006, this handsome daredevil was diagnosed with leukaemia at just 5 years of age. Now Max is 16, as tall as me, an extraordinary mountain bike rider, a budding racing car driver and a cancer survivor. Let's ride to cure as many kids as we possibly can.

My Story

7 Aug 2018

This October, I'm planning to ride 1000km to raise money to help kid's cancer cure research. It seems so long ago - yet not so long ago at all - that the handsome young fella in this pic was going through treatment for leukaemia, and thanks to the tireless efforts of our medical fraternity, he's now mapping out his future as an engineer.

I want to give something back. I want to see a time where kid's cancers are no more problematic than a bad case of flu. That will only happen with more research, and that only happens when there is funding.

This year feels like it'll be tough. The economy is tightening up, and there's always a better place to spend money. I'm not asking for a lot, but if a lot of you give a little, then we'll raise... a lot? Anyway... there's a couple of months to figure out how I can actually do so many kilometres in 31 days, and then we're on. Will you help? Cheers. #curecancer #fuckcancer #greatcyclechallenge

Just 50km to go to get to my total... and we've smashed through the $3k barrier, too!

So grateful for all of your generosity!

The GCC 2018 has raised more than $3.5m in a single month - truly amazing.

    Thank you all again.

  • Reality bites... but I'm still going to push
    27 Sep 2018

Hi everyone - thanks again for supporting my quest to raise money to fund research into kid's cancer. I've had to roll back my (admittedly) ambitious km total a bit, but I'm still committed to going through a bit of discomfort to make some money.

Quite often when I'm midway through a ride that's not as fun as I hoped it might be, I find myself thinking 'hey, soft-ass... there are people doing it harder than you, so get on with it.'

We were Those People for a few years... and being a parent of an oncology patient is not something I want anyone else to have to deal with.

All cancer stories are different, and while medical science - amazing, amazing medical science - is helping to produce more good endings every day, the fact is there are still endings that break your heart.

If you've chipped in to help fund children's cancer research, thank you so much. If you're thinking about, now's the time. Push the button, add a few bucks, and let's help this amazing charity raise more millions.

Good luck and happy hunting to everyone who's chasing GCC miles, and I'll keep you updated as we go. #greatcyclechallenge #letscurecancer #fuckcancer
