My Story

This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Because right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

And so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Together, we can save little lives.

Thanks for your support.

My Challenge

    Hi Family and friends,

I did it! Throughout October, I pedalled 141.1km and raised $3,160 in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer.

Together, all the riders raised more than $4.2m so far.

I've now completed my challenge (phew). It was tough, but it was worth every aching muscle to support research to find better treatments and a cure for childhood cancer to help these kids and their families.

I was overwhelmed with the level of support I received during this GCC, whether it was financially, physically or emotionally. Thanks so much to everyone. I couldn't have done it without you all. You all have big hearts ❀️.

Special thanks to my big supporters and those that took the time to ride with me and gave me encouragement to go on. I really appreciate it all. πŸš΄β€β™€οΈβ€ Time to relax now and celebrate all our efforts. πŸŽ‰πŸΎ

Signing off for the last time,

  • Week 4 Update of GCC
    3 Nov 2019

Week 4 , the last leg of my challenge was really fun. I got to ride 16 kms from Rockdale to Cooks Bridge with my big sis. We passed beautiful Brighton Le Sands with gorgeous views of its sandy white beach and calm blue water and then cycled passed many suburbs Monterey, Ramsgate, Sans Souci, Dolls Point and Sandringham to name a few. We passed many beautiful homes overlooking the water. Was an uphill struggle to get up Cooks bridge but great views from the top.

It was a lovely sunny day but we were riding against the wind going home. Thanks big sis for coming on this journey and riding with me and keeping me company. Made great memories and thx for the breakfast.

A lot of effort goes into this challenge. It takes an hour to travel just to get to the beginning of the starting point for the ride. πŸ˜€xxx

After this outdoor ride I managed to somehow clock up some more kms by pushing myself to ride 3 more times after work on my spin bike in this last week.

I could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

  • Week 3 Update of GCC
    23 Oct 2019

Every weekend I try to go somewhere different for my outdoor cycle ride.

On Sunday I had the pleasure of riding with my 2 younger sisters, my nephew and my little niece. It was a hot day and we cycled around the park in the Hills district. I did 20 laps around the circuit. It was fun riding and chatting with the twins. Thanks family for coming on this challenge with me and supporting me all the way.

I got an email today from the GCC group, it's disturbing to hear that 484 families have heard the painful words this year, "your child has cancer" and it's devastating to know that we've lost 126 little lives to this terrible disease this year.

So..... today I decided to move my goal post once again for the 6th and final time, to 120 kms and $3000. Push myself and see if I can raise more money for the little sick kids. I think of these little kids with cancer often as I climb those hills and turn the pedals as I used to see some of them every week, getting a top-up for blood at Concord Hospital.

With only 8 days left to reach my riding goal for this challenge and a busy schedule, wish me goodluck Suze :)

  • Week 2 Update of GCC
    18 Oct 2019

Week 2 was truly an amazing week for my fundraising. On Thursday 10th October I raised over $500 for my charity and a group of supporters matched it with an amount of $531.31. So I raised over a thousand dollars on that one day. I was totally blown away with all the level of support received. Thankyou all again. Every dollar counts.

On Sunday morning, I went on the Spring Cycle 20km River ride at 8am. It was sprinkling and a bit chilly. We started our ride at Cathy Freeman Park and went in an anti-clockwise circuit through Rhodes, Brays Bay Reserve, Meadowbank, Rydalmere East, Silverwater, the Newington Armory, Newington then back to Cathy Freeman Park. Was a beautiful ride along the river. Going up the bridge was a sure killer but I survived. Was a lovely day. Met a veteran GCC rider who had been doing the GCC challenge for 7 years now and also caught up with my fellow workmate/ cycling sis at the finishing line. Encountered a few aches and pains but overall a good ride.

    Some facts on GCC:

GCC community have ridden >1,151,765 km and raised a whopping $3.5M to fight kids cancer

    56,701 individual riders

    331 riders are cancer survivors

333 riders are taking part in the challenge from overseas

445 kids have taken on this challenge to fight kids cancer

    Signing off,

    Cycling Sue :)

    9 Oct 2019

    Hi All,

Someone wise said to me that goals are set to be broken. Yay, I broke my goal of 40km and $1500 in the first week so just set a new goal of 100 kms and a new fundraising goal of $2000. Here's to a new challenge!!!

Thanks all so much for your support for this great cause. I can hear you all in the background cheering me on while I was riding on the long weekend. Also, looking forward to my rides coming up with some of you guys. Take care.
