My Story
My Sixth Year Riding for Kids with Cancer
This October, I climb back on my bike for the sixth year running — not just to ride, but to fight for children fighting for their lives.
Six years ago, I joined the Great Cycle Challenge to raise vital funds for kids battling cancer and support life-saving research. What I didn't expect was that this bicycle would become my lifeline too.
Since 2020, I've been under a cardiologist's care. At one check-up, he reviewed my results and asked if I'd been exercising. I told him: 400 km a month, on my bike. He said if I kept it up, I might not need to see him again for years. That's what this bike has given me — freedom, health, and a reason to keep moving. My electric-assist bicycle carries me safely on almost any road, every journey, every time.
But every October, when I start pedalling for this challenge, I feel something bigger than exercise. I feel purpose. This isn't just about donations — though I'm endlessly grateful for them. It's about a rare chance to actually do something for a child we may never meet, whose hope depends, in some small way, on us. Few of us get that chance. Fewer still take it.
So I ride for them. Every pedal stroke is for a child who deserves to grow, to laugh, to live. Every year, I'm humbled by friends who stand with me in this mission.
This October, will you join me — not on a bike, but in spirit? Your donation funds critical research and shines hope into families facing unimaginable struggles.
May the Lord bless you richly. As Scripture reminds us, Jesus loved the little children and delighted to be with them. Together, let's ride, give, and love — for these precious young lives..
